Barcelona Successfully Registers Marcos Alonso in Timely Move

Barcelona’s full-back, Marcos Alonso, has been successfully registered on the La Liga website, raising the possibility of his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming match against Villarreal on Sunday.

The recent contract renewal of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, extending his commitment until 2028, has provided the financial leeway needed to officially register the contract of Marcos Alonso until June 2024. This contract had been inked by the Madrid defender back in January.

With this registration completed, the only two members of the first-team squad who are still awaiting clearance to play in the domestic competition are center-back Inigo Martinez, who is on the path to recovery from a right fascia injury, and second-choice goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

Interestingly, there was speculation that the goalkeeper might get registered this time, given the limited number of goalkeepers, with Ter Stegen being the sole option. However, the decision ultimately favored the full-back, who brings versatility to the squad by being able to play as a center-back as well.
